LSNJ’s Celebration of National Pro Bono Month Kicks off with Equal Justice Awards Event
October is National Pro Bono Month. During this time, we extend a heartfelt “thank you” to our dedicated pro bono volunteers for their time and effort spent helping to provide justice for the many clients in need.
In recognition of this work, LSNJ held its annual Equal Justice Awards celebration during National Pro Bono Month—on October 10. This special annual event recognizes pro bono contributors, celebrates those who have advanced equal justice for disadvantaged people, and memorialize progress toward justice for all in New Jersey.
In addition to the pro bono recognition, awards will be presented to distinguished honorees, the Honorable Joseph H. Rodriguez; and Michael R. Cole, Esq. (posthumously), with an introduction by former Governor Thomas H. Kean. Special presentations will honor the work and contributions of RWJBarnabas Health, David A. Mebane, Esq.; Assemblywoman Verlina Reynolds-Jackson; and New Jersey Senator Brian P. Stack.
For those who would like to help support pro bono in New Jersey, there are many ways to get involved. We are always looking to partner with organizations and firms, to provide a tailored program to meet your needs, including CLE training, pre-screening of clients, and ongoing mentorship and support. You can also visit PROBONONJ.org to explore the many current opportunities to represent a client in a variety of civil legal practice areas of your choosing, including bankruptcy, expungement, domestic violence, guardianships, tax, education, and many more.
Taking advantage of these opportunities facilitates the development of new skills, exposure to different areas of law, and maybe a feature on PBNJ! Ultimately, pro bono is about helping to close the justice gap for the most vulnerable communities by providing legal assistance to those who could not otherwise afford it. Thank you again for all that you do for the “public good.”
